Teen composer set to debut orchestral concert

Evan Tanovich admits he's a little nervous about debuting a choir and orchestral piece he wrote to celebrate the history of Canada, Windsor and his high school Assumption College.

This weekend, the Windsor teen — and music composer — will have his name on the marquee for a special concert at the University of Windsor.

"I am a bit nervous," Tanovich told CBC News, joking about what could go wrong. "Me having control of the whole thing? It might fall apart at my hands really."

The Grade 11 student from Assumption College high school spent about a year writing the 30-minute piece that also reflects on the history of his own school.

Tanovich plays several instruments, but this weekend he will be conducting. Having an experienced group of musicians helps tremendously.

"I have a lot of faith in the musicians and I have a lot of faith in the choir," he said. "We have rehearsed quite well and I think it will go quite well."

The concert is on Saturday at 7 p.m. and will be held at Assumption Hall on the University of Windsor campus. Admission is by donation.
