Temple Grandin cancels Yukon appearances
Two scheduled appearances in Whitehorse by world-renowned animal scientist, agriculture consultant and autism advocate Temple Grandin, have been postponed for at least a year.
Autism Yukon had booked Grandin to give two talks at the Yukon Arts Centre, on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1.
The organization says Grandin had to cancel for "personal reasons" and the earliest date she is next available was is in May, 2017.
"We weren't expecting it at all," said Leslie Peters, executive director of Autism Yukon. She said the organization feels "very sad that this has happened."
Grandin is known worldwide for designing more humane cattle slaughterhouses, as well as for advocating for people on the autism spectrum.
She was diagnosed as autistic as a young child and credits her autism for her success empathizing with animals.
Autism Yukon said the Yukon Arts Centre will be contacting anybody with tickets for Grandin's cancelled appearances and give refunds.
