Tennis ball-sized hail near Drumheller, severe thunderstorm watch for Calgary, Airdrie and Cochrane

Calgary remains under a severe thunderstorm watch Monday evening while a severe thunderstorm warning has now been downgraded to a watch for Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds and Sundre, as well as Drumheller and Three Hills.

Tennis ball-sized hail was spotted southwest of Drumheller in the late afternoon.

Environment Canada meteorologists were still tracking a storm front north of Cochrane and Airdrie, and have issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Red Deer area.

Environment Canada said the thunderstorm watch could last into the evening for Calgary.

The severe storm watch for Calgary is for conditions of strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Rafters scrambled to get off the Bow River as ominous clouds began rolling over Calgary skies late in the afternoon.
