Texan tops the list of world’s richest people, and claims to live in 400-square-foot home

Elon Musk, 51-year-old CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is the richest person in Texas, according to a new Forbes report on the richest in each state for 2023. The Austin resident has an estimated net worth of $230 billion.

“After feuding with California politicians over the state’s Covid-19 policies, the world’s richest person decamped in 2020 to the Lone Star State, where he has claimed to live in a 400-square-foot house on the Boca Chica campus of his rocket maker SpaceX,” Musk’s Forbes biography reads. “He moved the headquarters of electric carmaker Tesla to Texas as well. Born in South Africa, Musk immigrated to Canada and then the U.S. for college, studying economics at the University of Pennsylvania before heading to Silicon Valley.”

According to the latest Forbes report on the 400 richest people in America for 2022, these are the wealthiest Texans and how they rank among others across the globe:

  3. Michael Dell: #20 in the world. $58.9 billion net worth. Michael Dell, 58, is the chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies.

  4. Jerry Jones: #135 in the world. The 80-year-old Dallas Cowboys owner has a $13.2 billion net worth.

  5. Stanley Kroenke: #137 in the world. $12.9 billion net worth. Kroenke, 75-year-old real estate and sports mogul, is the owner of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
