More manga

Stanislaus County Library holds LGBTQ+ Rainbow Story Time. Here’s who turned out, and why,” (modbee.com, June 15)

Donors of the Stanislaus Library Foundation came through in a big way at this year’s annual Author’s Garden Gala. This event could not happen without our generous sponsors, and we want to thank all the businesses, organizations and individuals who have supported the library through their sponsorship.

Each year, we support a specific special need in our Fund-A-Need campaign, held in honor of Carol Shour, a long-time board member, past president and gala committee chair. This year, our special need was for manga books. This literary genre is incredibly popular among teens and young adults. With additional books funded by our campaign, the library can start manga book clubs which will expand opportunities for young people to put down their screens, go to the library, read and interact with others who have similar interests.

Our libraries in Stanislaus County are vibrant, busy places that enhance the quality of life here. Thank you again to the sponsors and donors who made our fundraising gala such a success!

Hypocrites

Rep. Matt Gaetz files motion to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy,” (modbee.com, Oct. 3)

Rep. Matt Gaetz says we must stop the “crisis” at the border to avoid a government shutdown and financial ruin. He and his Republican cronies conveniently forget that their tax breaks for the wealthy and for corporations added trillions to the national deficit.

Citizenship in jeopardy

California, a liberal bastion, may give Donald Trump an unlikely boost in 2024,” (modbee.com, Sept. 24)

Here is some information that all Latino people who are still big fans of Donald Trump

need to know: He has made promises, on more than one occasion, that when he is re-elected, on day one he will make an executive order to do away with Birthright Citizenship. That means that even if you were born in the U.S., if one or both of your parents came here illegally you will no longer be a citizen and be deported.

Heed Romney’s words

California, a liberal bastion, may give Donald Trump an unlikely boost in 2024,” (modbee.com, Sept. 24)

In Mitt Romney’s latest book, “No Apologies,” he says that other Republican lawmakers shared that MAGA henchmen made offers they could not refuse. If they did not follow these demands, they felt their families could be in danger. Consequently, lawmakers had to appease Trump’s every demand.

Romney, who failed to appease Trump, is still paying thousands of dollars a day to private security to protect his family. It should also be noted that judges and district attorneys involved in Trump’s indictments have had to be provided with full-time security based on Trump’s public threats. The phrase “leave the gun, take the cannoli” from “The Godfather” was probably in Trump’s egregious mind when he publicly boasted he could shoot someone in Downtown Manhattan and not lose a single MAGA supporter.

The abhorrent MAGA philosophy, fabricated by an execrable, unfettered narcissist and filled with rants, fallacies and domestic jingoism must be deep-sixed where it will forever swim with the fishes.

Fair representation

Modesto will pay $6.7 million in bonuses to employees. Here’s why and who gets the money,” (modbee.com, March 6)

In this world of ours where “remastered,” “redacted” and “revised” are all part of the political lexicon, might I suggest words (and action) like “revolt,” “recall” and “removal”? How can we continue dealing with increasingly high prices for products and services? How can political term limits be defined as “the senator has died”? Next year’s multimillionaire political candidates are already asking me for donations while I can barely squeak by.

Thank goodness for all the laws Congress has passed to help me thrive.

I love Bunny

This kind-hearted Modesto teacher cares for community,” (modbee.com, Oct. 7)

I have been following guest author Bunny Stevens’ articles in The Modesto Bee for a while. Every time I see a new Bunny article, I’m excited to read it. I go sit in a comfortable spot, relax and start reading. Bunny has an amazing ability to tell stories. The content of her articles is always refreshing, positive and keeps me at the edge of my seat. I love this writer!
