Tommy Wingels, James Sheppard re-signed by Sharks
The San Jose Sharks officially announced new contracts for restricted free agent forwards Tommy Wingels and James Sheppard.
In his second full season with the Sharks, Wingels notched seven-game winning goals among his 16 goals, to go along with 22 assists in 77 regular season games.
The Sharks reportedly will pay Wingels just over $7.4 million US for a three-year term, according to Capgeek.com.
Wingels played at Miami of Ohio University and was selected by the Sharks in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL draft.
Halifax native Sheppard will earn $1.3 million on his one-year pact, according to Capgeek.
Sheppard had four goals, 16 assists, and 35 penalty minutes in 67 games. He was a surprising offensive threat in San Jose's playoff loss to Los Angeles, with two goals and four assists in seven contests.
Sheppard was selected ninth overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2006 NHL draft after showing offensive capabilities with Cape Breton in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, but saw his pro career derailed for two years by a serious knee injury.
In 323 career regular season NHL games with Minnesota and San Jose, he's tallied 16 goals, 57 assists and 155 penalty minutes.
Both Sheppard and Wingels turned 26 in April.
San Jose has one remaining restricted free agent, defenceman Jason Demers.
