Tony Hay, ex-Fredericton transit manager, charged with theft, fraud
A former City of Fredericton transit manger has been charged with theft and fraud.
Anthony (Tony) Scott Hay, 42, is accused of stealing under $5,000 from the city between May 1, 2014 and Oct. 21, 2014, and defrauding the city of the same amount during the same period.
Hay was the manager of transit and parking services at the time, but has since resigned.
The indictable charges against him were laid in provincial court on Friday.
City officials declined to comment on Friday.
But CBC News has learned city councillors were told the amount involved was about $4,500.
Police were asked to investigate after an internal review uncovered "financial irregularities."
The city ended up withdrawing its complaint after Hay resigned, but police reopened the investigation.
Chief Leanne Fitch had said there was a need to "satisfy the public interest, given that this complaint is related to public funds."
Hay is expected to appear in court on July 3.
