Toronto police release image of getaway car in Shaka Reid murder

Toronto police say Shaka Reid was killed in a targeted shooting with a single gunshot to the chest last week, and released images of a white Ford Taurus in hopes of finding the man who shot him.

Police say Reid, a 36-year-old Toronto man, was shot dead around 12:10 a.m. on Aug. 19, in Oskenonton Lane, near the intersection of Dundas Street East and Sherbourne Avenue.

Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone says before the shooting, Reid was approached by several men. Reid spoke with one man, Carbone said, and then without any sign of an altercation, the man shot Reid in the chest.

The shooter, as well as up to three other men, then fled the scene in the white Ford.

Carbone says Dundas Street East appeared to be busy at the time and he asked anyone who may have been in the area to contact police. He also says Reid, who is known to police, had been in the downtown neighbourhood with friends in the hours before his death.

Area residents have been co-operating with the investigators, police say, but they still haven't been able to identify any suspects.

Police are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact Carbone at 416-808-7400, ext. 77378 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

Reid's death is the 34th homicide of the year in Toronto, police say.
