Town to have youth club for first time since Covid
A youth club has opened in a Lincolnshire town for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Brigg's youth centre in Grammar School Road was put up for sale in 2020 by North Lincolnshire Council.
The new centre is based at Brigg Methodist Church and offers games and a place for young people to meet.
The free club is operated by Oikos-Brigg, a Christian charity that already runs a food bank, a warm space, a high street shop and a school uniform exchange hub.
Activities include pool and air hockey, while young people have also been building a mini golf course. Four activity events and a day trip have been planned.
'Safe space'
Grace Smith, a youth worker, said Oikos and the Methodist church were funding the club, with support from the National Lottery.
The club aimed to be "a safe space to enjoy activities and just some time outside of school", and young people were welcome to "just turn up", she added.
A Friday session for 11 to 14-year-olds runs from 18:30 until 20:00 BST. Meanwhile, a weekly adult youth club will begin on Friday, from 15:00 until 17:00.
The demolition of the former youth centre, and its replacement with two four-bedroom homes, was granted planning approval in December 2023, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
