Traffic study to examine Highway 138/Playground Poker intersection

A traffic study that begins today is will seek to find out if adjustments need to be made to the timing of stop lights and the traffic patterns at the intersection of Highway 138 and Playground Poker, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake said.

The traffic study – which will be conducted by the Quebec Transport Ministry – will consist of a special camera that was set up yesterday and will evaluate traffic patterns in an effort to see if changes need to be made to the timing of traffic lights and to see if further mitigation is necessary.

The camera will be taken down next Wednesday.

Cameras are not designed to monitor individual driving patterns and will not be recording individual license plates, the MCK said.

The traffic study is being conducted with the co-operation of Playground Poker and the MCK is asking community members to be mindful of construction zones, and to move over when they see flashing lights on the side of the road.

Additionally, the MCK said the traffic study is subject to possible change depending on weather, operational restraints and work progression. In addition, the MCK doesn’t take part in scheduling or cancellation of such projects, it said.
