Train derails northeast of Calgary causing minor disruptions
A CN Rail train derailment north of the Town of Three Hills has caused minor disruptions to transportation services in the area, according to Alberta Emergency Alert.
An information alert notifying the public of the derailment approximately 60 kilometres northeast of Calgary was issued just before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Lindsay Fedchyshyn, a spokeswoman for CN, said 15 cars went of the track at 7 p.m.
Inside most of the cars was general consumer merchandise, Fedchyshyn said. Two contained small amounts of chemical for household and industrial use, but there have been no leaks.
The government's emergency management agency said Township Road 322 was closed from Range Road 240 east to the entrance to the grain elevator.
The road was expected to remain closed until further notice.
