Three people were shot in Mississauga Friday evening sending two to a trauma centre and one to hospital, police say. One man has since died.

At approximately 8 p.m., Peel police said they received a report of a disturbance in the area of Hull Street and Airport Road.

Const. Himmet Gill said initial calls were about an altercation on the street involving 10 men with reports of multiple gunshots.

When they arrived, police said, they found three people with gunshot wounds. Gill said the victims' injuries are being treated as life-threatening.

Gill said two victims were rushed to a trauma centre and the other was taken to a local hospital. One man died shortly thereafter from his injuries. Police have not yet released a description of suspects.

"At this point, we don't know if they fled on foot or if they fled in a vehicle," Gill said.

"It's very crucial to understand what had transpired here first to see what the events, how they unfolded."

Gill said police are still trying to determine how many people were involved but they can confirm it was a "large gathering."

Peel Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
