Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams are raising two daughters together.

The couple first met on the set of a play in 2009 and later tied the knot in December 2016 in a Southern California ceremony. They welcomed their first daughter, Aurora, two years later in October 2018. Bellisario and Adams expanded their family again in May 2021 with the arrival of their second daughter, Elliot.

The pair tend to keep their private life out of the spotlight, but occasionally, they share glimpses into their family on social media. For National Daughters Day in September 2023, Bellisario shared a rare photo of her daughters on Instagram.

“Apparently today is #nationaldaughtersday but then I don’t understand what literally every other day of the year is… I couldn’t be more grateful to be the mother of these two wild forces of nature,” she wrote in the caption. “You have always been and will always by my favorite human beings.”

In July 2022, the Pretty Little Liars alum opened up to The Nerds of Color about being a working mom of two and approaching projects differently now because of “how much energy and time it takes to portray a character.”

“I’m not able to just do a bunch of things in the way that I once was when I was 20, 21, or something like that, I had more time,” she continued. “And so I think for me when I read a role, it’s got to grab me in a way that I say, 'Oh, this is worth not putting my daughters to bed that night.' This is worth me saying, 'Mama’s gotta go to work, because this is really important for me,' so that they learn, like, 'Okay, you go to work too, and sometimes it means you don’t get to always be together but you’re doing something you love.' ”

She added, “I only want to do the work, I’m in a very fortunate place that I can right now do that, that will allow me to be with them and also allow me to show up to work in an excited way.”

Bellisario and Adams welcomed their first child together, daughter Aurora Adams, on Oct. 4,  2018. A few days later, the pair announced the birth of their daughter on Instagram, each sharing a photo of the newborn's fingers wrapped around their hands.

“The world just got 8lbs heavier. Thank you to everyone who fought for and protected our privacy during this incredible and beautiful time in our lives,” Adams wrote in his caption, while Bellisario shared, “I couldn’t be more proud to be her mother. To bring a new girl into this world and to do my best to raise her to be kind, strong and whatever the heck she wants to be.”

Two weeks later, the Suits star opened up to PEOPLE about life as a new dad. “Oh man, we are two weeks in. It has just taught me how much sleep means,” he joked. “But it is good, it’s great.”

In February 2019, during an appearance on Katie Lowes’ podcast, Katie’s Crib, Bellisario opened up about her initial fear of raising a daughter.

“When we found out we were having a girl, I was floored, I was shocked. Of course I was worried,” she said. “I was thinking about my relationship with my mother. I was thinking about my history with my eating disorder. This is horrifying.”

After welcoming Aurora, Bellisario told Lowes she felt an “instant connection” with her daughter, and her fears faded. “Immediately, I just didn’t want to be apart from her. I couldn’t stop staring at her. I felt immediate love, responsibility, admiration for her. She was awesome,” she said.

Bellisario and Adams kept Aurora’s name a secret until her first birthday when the actress shared a sweet tribute to their daughter on Instagram. Speaking with Teen Vogue in November 2019, Bellisario revealed the inspiration behind Aurora’s name.

“We had a different name, and then we were considering boy's names, 'cause we didn't know what sex she was going to be,” she said. “We were looking at the name Helios, and then we thought that Helios had a sister named Eos, and we didn't love Eos. But then we learned in Roman mythology that Eos was Aurora, which is the goddess of the dawn.”

Bellisario added, “And we thought it would be nice that she would be our dawning of a new day in our life, and then we were like, ‘Well, that's, you know, laden and cumbersome and really, like, a lot for a name.’ So we went back to our other names. [But] Aurora kept on cropping up in both Patrick and my lives. It just wouldn't go away.”

While their daughter also shares a name with a Disney princess, Bellisario told Teen Vogue that she didn’t consider the connection because she was “thinking about it in terms of the historical context.”

Bellisario and Adams are very protective of Aurora’s privacy, but the actress detailed her husband’s close bond with their daughter in a Father’s Day post in 2020.

“The place you hold for our daughter is so sacred. She is safest in your arms, fiercely protected by your heart, and always laughs hardest at your jokes (always, damnit),” she wrote. “Before I knew I was pregnant, you dreamed of her, before we knew she would be born female, you asked for a daughter. You and Aurora have a connection that is so solidly woven all I can do is stand back and watch in gratitude.”

In October 2022, Bellisario celebrated Aurora’s fourth birthday by sharing a carousel of photos of the toddler from throughout the years.

“I cannot believe I’ve only known you four years. You have shaped me in a way no other human being could,” she wrote alongside an E.E. Cummings poem. “You made me into a mother and I am so grateful that you were the one to do it. There is no one else like you. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life watching you grow.”

Bellisario and Adams welcomed their second daughter, Elliot Rowena Adams, on May 15, 2021.

The proud parents each shared their surprise baby news on Instagram. Bellisario posted a black-and-white photo of herself holding the newborn and wrote, “Ms Elliot Rowena Adams joined us on May 15th under the wildest of circumstances. A whole new ERA for this family. Welcome, my love.”

On his page, Adams shared a photo of Elliot's hand holding his finger, writing, “+1…..Welcome to the funhouse, Ms. Elliot Rowena Adams. May your life be as unique and exciting as your arrival.”

During another appearance on the podcast Katie’s Cribs in June 2021, Bellisario and Adams opened up about how the Pretty Little Liars actress gave birth to Elliot while driving in a car. The couple recounted pulling into the parking lot at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles as Bellisario started to experience intense contractions.

"I'm starting to have to push my seat belt away from me," she said. "I'm in a lot of pain, but I'm also like, 'I can't be in this position anymore.' "

"As soon as I hit the button and grab the ticket, she's screaming," Adams added. "... I whip around, and by the time I turn my head around, Troian is already [fully on her] hands and knees ... and we've gone nuclear."

After attempting to get help, Adams said there “was no room for panic,” and he had to deliver Elliot himself, which "all took place in the span of about three minutes." After the newborn was out, Bellisario said she was relieved to hear her daughter cry.

"I just look over my shoulder, because I'm still on all fours ... and I see Patrick holding her upside down, and she's wailing, so I'm like, 'She's alive, she's OK. She's breathing," she said.

One month after her exciting birth, Elliot made her big screen debut in Bellisario’s 2022 film Doula. Speaking with Teen Vogue in July 2022, the actress revealed that Elliot played her character Deb’s newborn daughter, who appears at the end of the film.

“It was funny because actually the shot of me looking at her, we shot while she was in my belly still, when I was eight months pregnant. So I was looking at a doll and imagining, but then the shot of her, we got to shoot when she was out and, I think, a month old,” she explained. “I held her in my arms and they pointed the camera at her, and it was just magic. She opened her eyes and actually smiled. I was like, ‘Are you kidding. What a ham.’ ”

In May 2022, Bellisario celebrated Elliot’s first birthday by sharing a sweet tribute to the toddler on Instagram.

“Every single thing about you has been a surprise to me. From the way you came into this world to the way you move through it,” she wrote alongside a photo of Elliot staring out an airplane window. “Everyday you teach me that my job as your mother is to love you fiercely and get the hell out of your way. Thank you for changing my world in a way I never could have imagined. I will forever be in awe of you my funny bear.”
