Get your umbrella ready. A lot of rain is on the way.

Not just any rain, hurricane rain. Well, tropical storm rain, at least.

Environment Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement for Montreal and southern Quebec, warning that the remnants of tropical storm Beryl will begin to arrive late Wednesday.

Expect between 40 and 80 mm or rain to fall, the agency says.

But Beryl, the powerful hurricane that devastated islands in the Caribbean before lashing Mexico and Texas, has weakened. It is now a tropical storm and will have lost most of its energy travelling northward. It is expected to bring some moderate winds.

The rain is likely to continue to fall all, or most of the day, Thursday. The ECCC statement warned of possible flash flooding and ponding on roads.
