TrustNordisk Boards Marijana Jankovic’s ‘Home’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Copenhagen-based TrustNordisk has just picked up international rights to the Danish drama “Home” by actor-turned director Marijana Jankovic (“The House that Jack Built”).
For her debut feature after 2019’s multi-awarded short film “Maja,” a best short winner at Tribeca, Jankovic has assembled an impressive A-list international cast.

This includes Dejan Cukic (“Snabba Cash”), Nada Sargin (“The Mould”), Zlatko Buric (“Triangle of Sadness”), Claes Bang (“The Square”), Jesper Christensen (“Spectre”, “Casino Royal”), Trine Dyrholm (“The Girl With the Needle”) and Lene Maria Christensen (“Unruly”).
Based on a script co-penned by Jankovic with the seasoned Bo Hr. Hansen, behind Thomas Vinterberg’s upcoming series “Families like Ours,” a hit at MipTV, and Babak Vakili (“Outlaw”), the story is inspired by the director’s own experience, and feelings of and reflections on uprootedness.
Aged six, she moved from Montenegro to Denmark with her parents, but feeling homesick, she returned to her grandmother’s care. A year later, she and her siblings were brought back to Denmark, where Jankovic eventually settled and signed up for the Acting School at Aarhus Theatre.
The film is described as a “universal tale of generational bonds and the fundamental need to belong, which questions what home really means. Jankovic says it is like “a cry we cannot ignore, born from those who were uprooted and from our parents who left their homes and sacrificed their lives and familiar existence for us, their children.”
In the movie, while the Balkan region is in the midst of serious political unrest in 1991 and on the verge of dissolution, Maja’s parents decide to leave Yugoslavia for Denmark. The family struggles to adapt, especially Maja. Years later, despite achieving success, she grapples with conflicting emotions, recognizing the sacrifices her parents made to provide a good life for their family in their adopted country.
Currently lensing between Serbia and Denmark, the film is due for delivery in 2025.
“Home “is produced by Mads-August Hertz for Nordisk Film Production, with support from the Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, TV2 Denmark and Nordisk Film Distribution which holds Scandinavian rights.
In Cannes, TrustNordisk recently announced key sales on the Claes Bang vehicle “Stockholm Bloodbath” picked up by Brainstorm Media and Sunrise Films for North America, The Jokers for France and Divisa Red for Spain.
