Tuesday’s boys’ high school basketball rewind: Independence holds off Charlotte Catholic

Independence High jumped out to a big early lead against Charlotte Catholic and beat the Cougars 59-45 Tuesday in a Southwestern 4A conference game.

The Patriots led 17-6 after the first quarter and made that lead stand up, helped by a 19-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Zion Bosley-Slade led the Patriots with 15 points and Jaxson Neely added 11. Catholic got 15 from Chris Eagan and 14 from Liam Gates.

Tuesday’s #BIG5 top performers

Nick Arnold, Lake Norman: Arnold had seven points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 62-49 win over Mount Tabor.

Christian Coleman, West Charlotte: Coleman had a game-high 22 points in a 63-29 win over West Mecklenburg.

Dylan Deluca, United Faith: In an 86-63 win over Carolina International, Deluca had 31 points, 12 rebounds.

Isaiah Henry, Cannon School: Henry, a 6-5 junior, had a game-high 26 points in an 82-67 win over No. 6 Cannon School vs. No. 8 Northside Christian.

Samaj Long, Porter RIdge: Long had a game-high 30 points in a 76-72 win over Forest Hills. He’s averaging 29.5 points his last two games.
