Two people from Teslin, Yukon, have died and three people are in hospital after a collision Wednesday on the Alaska Highway near Squanga Lake.

In a news release Thursday, the Yukon Coroner's Service said Martina Marie Sidney (Baker), 43, and Berdina Dorothy Hager, 44, both died in the collision.

The collision between an SUV and a fifth wheel trailer closed the highway north of Teslin early Wednesday afternoon. It reopened to one lane around 10 p.m.

The Yukon Coroner's Service said it and the Teslin RCMP are still investigating the collision, and speed may have been a factor.
