Ukrainian hackers have targeted Russia's largest Internet portal, Mail.ru, causing disruptions for users outside of Russia and some domestic clients, Ukraine’s Digital Transformation Ministry reported via Telegram on Feb. 29.

Affected users have lost access to their accounts, including the ability to recover passwords and use two-factor verification to access their devices.

"The free email service has been suspended due to attacks by our cyber army,” the ministry wrote.

“We are saying goodbye to Mail.ru...; the [Ukrainian] IT army attacked the largest Internet portal in Russia."

On Jan. 27, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) reported that a devastating Ukrainian cyber-attack devastated the entire digital infrastructure of IPL Consulting, a company providing IT services to the Russian industrial sector.

On Jan. 24, HUR reported that Ukrainian hackers attacked Russia’s Far Eastern Scientific Research Center for Space Hydrometeorology, destroying its database.

On Jan. 9, NV’s sources said that hackers from the Blackjack group, likely associated with Ukraine’s SBU security service, breached Moscow’s internet provider M9com.

On Jan. 8, Ukrainian hacker collective KibOrg leaked the entire customer database of Russia's largest commercial bank, Alfa-Bank, which contained personal data of the bank’s 38 million clients.

In what was most likely a Russian hacker attack, Ukraine's largest mobile operator Kyivstar experienced a large-scale outage on Dec. 12, 2023. Millions of customers across the country lost access to Kyivstar’s mobile network for several days.
