Ukrainians face more power outages as Russia continues to hammer Ukraine's energy grid
Ukrainians will see even more power outages due to the "deteriorating situation with Ukraine's power grid", Ukrnerergo chair, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, said on national TV on June 2.
Ukraine's energy system is experiencing an even more significant deficit due to three factors: the planned decommissioning of nuclear power plant units, Russia’s attacks on energy facilities, and the predicted increase in electricity consumption due to hot weather and resultant use of air conditioners.
"The deficit that we successfully avoided for a few days last week will return in a fairly serious amount,” Kudrytskyi said.
“It cannot be physically overcome by importing electricity from Europe."
Electricity consumption restrictions will be applied throughout Ukraine on June 3, Ukrenergo reported.
The restrictions will apply from midnight and throughout the day. The power supply of critical infrastructure will not be affected, the company said.

Russia has carried out five missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's power system since March 22, decreasing Ukraine's capacity to produce electricity, Ukrenergo said.

Controlled emergency blackouts were introduced in all regions of Ukraine on May 14 due to a significant electricity shortage.
All of Ukraine's major thermal and hydroelectric power plants were damaged by Russian strikes, Ukrenergo reported on May 20.
The company urged consumers to shift the use of powerful electrical appliances to daytime hours, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
