US involved in Ukraine’s domestic drone program

The United States is participating in the production and operation of drones in Ukraine, Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of Ukraine’s UAV Forces, said at a press briefing on June 11.

According to him, collaboration with allies is crucial for Ukraine, since the drone program requires stable supplies of parts. Sukharevskyi noted that Ukraine does not produce all components needed for drones, relying on foreign-made components like thermal imaging cameras and magnets for rotor engines.

“The United States is one of our strategic partners,” Interfax-Ukraine news agency quoted Sukharevskyi.

“They are involved in many aspects, from intelligence to manufacturing and operational support.”

He added that Kyiv is also working with France on upgrading UAVs that will be transferred to Ukraine. Norway, Spain, Canada, and South Korea are also involved in various drone-related projects.

On June 10, Sukharevskyi was appointed commander of Ukraine’s recently established Unmanned Systems Forces. He previously served as a deputy to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
