Vehicle found in fatal hit-and-run that killed cyclist in Whitehorse
Police in Whitehorse say they have found the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that killed a cyclist.
The crash temporarily shut down a section of the Alaska Highway on Thursday morning, after police said they received a report of a hit-and-run near Rabbit's Foot Canyon, Yukon.
On Thursday, shortly after the crash, police had said they were looking for a black Chrysler 300 vehicle "or similar," with front end damage.
At the time, they did not share information about the condition of the cyclist. However, they have now confirmed that the cyclist died.
"I would like to thank the public for all of their calls yesterday in providing valuable information in regards to our request for assistance in locating the vehicle," reads a statement from Sgt. Brent Edwards.
Police said that out of respect for the privacy of the family they will not be identifying the victim.
Edwards said police are still hoping for witnesses to come forward, or for members of the public who may have dashcam footage.
