Vice President Kamala Harris Pays Homage to Her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Pink Suit and Pearls in Dallas

Vice President Kamala Harris used her sartorial statement to pay homage to her sorority during a speaking engagement in Dallas on Wednesday. The Vice President of the United States suited up for the event, where she spoke to roughly 20,000 members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority ahead of the November presidential election.

For the occasion, Harris favored a suit with sentimental coloring. The vice president fashioned a salmon pink suit, which included a double-breasted blazer, off-white blouse beneath and tailored trousers. The salmon pink shade was a direct reference to her sorority’s colors: apple green and salmon pink.

Along with her suit, Harris also wore a necklace that included two strands of pearls, another nod to her collegiate sorority. The pearls in Alpha Kappa Alpha are a reference to the founders of the sorority. She also wore a set of pearl stud earrings.

Among the 20,000 attendees, a number of women nodded to the colors of Alpha Kappa Alpha, with many women fashioning variations of pink and green. The decorations in the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center also featured shades of pink and green.

Harris was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority when she attended Howard University as an undergraduate student. In the years since her time as a collegiate, the vice president has made subtle nods to her sorority, often by wearing pearls as her jewelry accessory of choice.

Suiting up for such speaking engagements and campaign events has long been Harris’ sartorial statement of choice. The vice president suits up for a number of speaking engagements and appearances, especially during the campaign season.

While Harris has, on occasion, worn dresses by such designers as Monique Lhuillier, it’s the power suit that’s the ideal sartorial statement for the longtime politician. As the 2024 presidential campaign continues, it’s a style choice Harris will more than likely continue to fashion in the months ahead.
