Gunmen open fire at a funeral in Mexico

At least eight people were killed in the Mexican city of Cuernavaca after gunmen reportedly stormed a funeral service.

At least 14 others sustain injuries.

The shooting happened on Tuesday (September 1) and underlines the serious violence from gangs and drug cartels in that country.

Authorities have not yet reported on the arrests of any perpetrators. Investigations are ongoing.

Successive governments have failed to end Mexico's violent crime plight.

According to the latest data available, more than 34,600 murders were registered last year.

Meanwhile, the Mexican navy said they had intercepted a speedboat at sea earlier this week.

It was allegedly loaded with almost 3 tons of cocaine.

Three people were detained in that operation.
