Shopkeeper Chases Off Masked Raider Armed With Knife

An “heroic shopkeeper” foiled an attempted robbery by a masked raider armed with a knife in Sunderland on September 27, 2018.

Richard Quarmby entered the Londis shop brandishing a bread knife, lunging at the shopkeeper before being fought off and chased out of the store.

On May 14, 2019, Quarmby was found guilty of attempted robbery, taking without the owner’s consent and driving while disqualified and was sentenced to six years and three months in jail.

In a statement to the court, the shopkeeper said that he had been worked at the Londis since 1984 and said that “to be the victim of a crime of this nature is upsetting and it affects all aspects of my life.” Credit: Northumbria Police via Storyful
