Snow Leopard Enjoys Winter Weather at Chicago-Area Zoo

Malaya the snow leopard enjoyed a wintry day at the Brookfield Zoo in the Chicago suburb of Brookfield, Illinois, on January 23, as the city was blanketed by about an inch of snow, the National Weather Service said.

This video shows the big cat rolling around on the snow-covered ground and climbing a frosty tree in her zoo habitat. “There’s snow denying Malaya is having a GREAT day!” the Brookfield Zoo said on Twitter.

The snow leopard has been labeled by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as “vulnerable,” meaning the species faces a “high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.” Credit: Chicago Zoological Society via Storyful
