Virgin River’s Alexandra Breckenridge Celebrates ‘Poor Thing’ Charmaine Finally Giving Birth After 4 Seasons

It’s a Christmas miracle! After 45 episodes spread over four calendar years, Charmaine Roberts finally gives birth in Virgin River Season 5 Part 2, now streaming on Netflix. And baby whisperer Mel Monroe has a front-row seat to the long-awaited event, whether she likes it or not.

“I’m so glad that we jumped ahead in time [for the Christmas episodes], because that poor thing was wearing a belly forever and ever,” Alexandra Breckenridge (Mel) tells TVLine of co-star Lauren Hammersley (Charmaine). “I remember one season people were like, ‘She’s pregnant? We can’t see it.’ And I was like, ‘It’s been two months [on the show]!'”

So, might this experience bring the two women closer together? While Mel and Charmaine aren’t ready to trade friendship bracelets just yet, Breckenridge does note that her character basically has the heart of a saint, so anything’s possible.

As she explains, “If you had to birth the babies of the woman who told your fiancé that she was having his children, but was like, ‘Oh no, actually it’s this drug dealer guy,’ but you’re still here for it, how much empathy would you have to have? A lot!”
