Vote: Who was best female multi-sport athlete in the South Sound in 2023-24?

The 2023-24 high school year is in the books. Across the South Sound, some athletes were stars in multiple sports, earning all-league recognition in different seasons. Some were even three-sport athletes for their schools.

Who was the best female multi-sport athlete in our area this school year? We want to hear from you. Voting will remain open until noon Friday.

Avery Cujkati, Curtis — Played volleyball and flag football for the Vikings, earning 4A SPSL first-team all-league honors at outside hitter in volleyball.

Lillian Ecklund, Curtis — Played water polo and flag football for the Vikings. Was the MVP goalkeeper of Curtis’ state championship water polo team.

Marley Ells, Stadium — Letter every season, every year at Stadium, playing soccer, flag football and running track. Helped lead the Tigers to a district soccer title in the fall and had multiple state placements in track.

Madisyn Erickson, Yelm — Two-time Mat Classic state wrestling champion, including an undefeated 2023-24 season. First-team 3A SSC softball player lettered four times.

Alosina Fuiava, Decatur — TNT All-Area first-team softball selection posted monster numbers, named the 4A NPSL Player of the Year. Fuiava hit 14 home runs with 47 RBI and paced Decatur in hits (43), batting average (.642), and slugging percentage (1.433). Played flag football for the Gators.

Kali Ginnis, Fife — Played soccer, was on the bowling team, played flag football and tennis for the Trojans. Was the 2A SPSL MVP in soccer, first-team in flag football and was first-team and a state doubles participant in tennis.

Amelia Herrmann-Scholbe, Annie Wright — Played volleyball and tennis for the Gators, earning first-team 1A Nisqually volleyball honors after leading the team in kills. Was also a 1A Nisqually all-league tennis player and district doubles champion.

Amyah Johnson, Decatur — Three-sport sophomore finished 14th in the WIAA 4A State Dive meet and qualified for district gymnastics. Girls tennis participant.

Alexis Meyer, North Thurston — All four years, played volleyball, basketball and ran track for the Rams. Was a TNT All-Area volleyball selection, leading Rams to fourth place in 3A state tournament. Honorable mention 3A SSC basketball player and set three school records (800-meter, 1600 and 3,200) in track. Took sixth place in the state in the 800.

Jasmyn Sharp, Washington — Played soccer, bowled and played tennis for the Patriots.

Kuuipomailani “Lani” Smith-O’Brien, Decatur — Outfielder was a 2023 All-NPSL first-teamer for Decatur softball, and played girls soccer and flag football for the Gators.

Quinn Tongue, Auburn — Senior lettered in cheer, gymnastics, track, golf, wrestling and flag football during her high school career. State competitor in gymnastics (2022), wrestling (2023), golf (2024), and track (2024).

Kailey Verhoeven, Emerald Ridge — Played basketball, flag football and softball for the Jaguars, lettering seven times at Emerald Ridge. Was a second-team all-league infield selection in the 4A SPSL.

Kaylee Walker, Auburn Riverside — Softball standout and 3A NPSL Player of the Year slashed .578/.657/1.433 and did not commit a single error at third base (28 games), helping guide Auburn Riverside to its first state title in program history. Led the state of Washington with 19 home runs and 69 RBI. Paced Ravens volleyball with 183 digs in 2023.

Sophie Walker, Decatur — Everyday Gators infielder played softball, flag football, and girls soccer for Decatur.

Clarissa Wangen, Curtis — Ran cross country and track and was a Mat Classic wrestling state champion in the 3A/4A Girls 155 for the Vikings last winter.

Sierra Wangen, Curtis — Ran cross country and track and was a Mat Classic wrestling state champion in the 3A/4A Girls 135 for the Vikings last winter.

Grace Wesenberg, Emerald Ridge — Played volleyball and competed in track and field for the Jaguars. Multiple-time TNT All-Area selection in volleyball and district high jump competitor.

Latham West, Bonney Lake — Sophomore participated in cross country, wrestling and track for the Panthers. Second place in district cross country meet and fourth-place state finisher also took fourth in the Mat Classic state wrestling tournament and was a district champion and state placer in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Brynn Williams, Tenino — State cross country participant, starting guard on the basketball team and track athlete. Was a state track participant in 2023, also.

Sarah Wright, Kentwood — Two-time TNT All-Area Player of the Year and Arizona softball commit silenced foes with eye-popping numbers in the circle, posting a 12-2 record, 1.00 ERA, and 229 strikeouts her senior year. At the plate, hit .486 with four home runs. Kentwood wrestler finished runner-up in the Girls 3A/4A 155 at Mat Classic XXXV.
