Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (April 10 to 15)

Nini Sevaaetasi, Decatur softball

Sevaaetasi hit 4-for-9 with four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and a stolen base in a loss to Tahoma and win over Federal Way.

Cassandra Atkins, Federal Way track and field — Won the long jump (personal-best 19-5 ½) and triple jump (39-9 ½) at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic. Both distances are the top-ranked jumps in the state this spring. Also ran a leg of Federal Way’s winning 4x100 relay (49.66), which ranks third statewide.

Ava Bautista, Olympia softball — Hit 1-for-3 in a win over Puyallup and tossed two innings, allowing one run while striking out two. Hit 1-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base in a win over Curtis and tossed a four-inning complete game shutout, striking out five. Hit 2-for-3 with a run scored, home run and two RBI in a loss to South Kitsap and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out one.

Hannah Browne, Auburn softball — Tossed a five-inning complete game shutout in a win over Mount Rainier, allowing one hit while striking out four. Also hit 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a double, three RBI and two stolen bases.

Bella Carazo, Bonney Lake softball — Hit 3-for-5 with a run scored and four RBI in wins over Tumwater and Lakes. Also tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout against Tumwater, allowing three hits while striking out eight.

Gavin Coke, Steilacoom baseball — Had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs in 14-3 win over Foss on Wednesday.

Cruize Corvin, Lakes track and field — Won the 1,600 at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 4:14.81, which ranks third statewide.

Julia Couch, Auburn Riverside track and field — Won the 1,600 at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 4:57.88, which ranks fourth statewide.

Austin Crawford, Federal Way baseball — Pitched six innings of shutout baseball in a win over Kennedy Catholic on Tuesday, allowing just three hits and striking out ten batters. At the plate, went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including an RBI triple.

Kyla Cross, Bonney Lake softball — Hit 5-for-8 with three runs scored, two doubles, two triples and three RBI in wins over Tumwater and Lakes.

Jediah Darrell, Lincoln track and field — Won the discus at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 156-1, which ranks fifth statewide.

Ian Draper, Rogers baseball — Went 3-for-4 with three RBI in 6-4 win over Sumner on Friday.

Austin Egan, Rogers baseball — Threw a complete-game shutout in 10-0 win over Bellarmine Prep, allowing two hits and striking out three batters.

Jonathan Frazier, Lincoln track and field — Won the 200 in a meet against Bonney Lake and Silas with a personal-best 21.87, which ranks fifth statewide. Also won the 100 (10.6), 110 hurdles (14.48) and 300 hurdles (40.32) at the meet. Also won the 110 hurdles (14.5) and ran a leg of Lincoln’s winning 4x400 relay (3:31.4) at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic.

Mikayla Gardley, Emerald Ridge track and field — Won the 300 hurdles at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 46.54, which ranks fifth statewide.

Gabby Greenwood, Kentwood softball — Tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing one hit while striking out 11 of 16 batters faced in a win over Federal Way. Hit 1-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and two RBI.

Kai Halstead, Puyallup baseball — Went 3-for-4 and hit two home runs — including a three-run home run in the fifth inning — driving in four runs total in 6-2 win over Olympia on Wednesday.

Alissa Hermansen, Bonney Lake softball — Hit 4-for-8 with a run scored, two doubles and four RBI in wins over Tumwater and Lakes. Also tossed a five-inning complete game shutout against Lakes, allowing one hit while striking out 11.

Austin Hitchner, Yelm softball — Hit 4-for-6 with four runs scored, two doubles, a triple, eight RBI and two stolen bases in wins over Capital and Central Kitsap.

Karson Holt, Enumclaw baseball — Had two hits, including a home run and a triple, and drove in six runs in 18-1 win over Orting on Wednesday and had another hit and RBI in 23-0 win over Foss on Friday.

Roby Hooper, Puyallup soccer — Scored the lone goal in the sixth minute of Puyallup’s 1-0 win over valley rival Sumner on Wednesday.

Roman Hutchinson, Federal Way track and field — Won the triple jump at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 46-5, which ranks second statewide. Also won the long jump (22-8). Also ran a leg of Federal Way’s winning 4x100 relay (43.13) in a meet against Mount Rainier, which ranks tied for seventh statewide.

Jaylon Jenkins, Federal Way track and field — Won the high jump at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a personal-best 6-6, which ranks tied for second statewide. Also placed second in the long jump (22-1 ¼). Won the triple jump in a meet against Mount Rainier with a season-best 43-10 ¾, which ranks 10th statewide, and ran a leg of Federal Way’s winning 4x100 relay (43.13), which ranks tied for seventh statewide.

Brooke Jett, South Kitsap softball — Hit 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI in an extra-innings loss to Emerald Ridge and 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a double, home run and two RBI in a win over Olympia.

Lauryn Krick, Puyallup softball — Tossed a seven-inning complete game in a win over Bethel, allowing two runs while striking out 14. Hit 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases.

Ryan Lewis, Tahoma track and field — Won the 800 at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a season-best 1:55.12, which ranks fourth statewide.

Matthew Ludlow, Gig Harbor soccer — Scored five goals and had three assists in 12-1 win over Yelm and 8-0 win over River Ridge.

Brooke Lyons, Tahoma track and field — Won the 100 (personal-best 11.81), 200 (season-best 24.95) and 400 (personal-best 56.49) at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic. Posted the top-ranked time statewide in the 400 and second-ranked time in both the 100 and 200.

Sax Matson, Olympia baseball — Pitched six shutout innings in 7-0 win over Curtis on Friday, allowing four hits, a walk and striking out six Vikings’ batters. At the plate, had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.

Riley McGee, Sumner softball — Hit 6-for-8 with six runs scored, a double, triple, home run, six RBI and a stolen base in wins over Bellarmine Prep and Camas. Also tossed a seven-inning complete game against Camas, allowing one earned run while striking out eight.

Nehemeya Mekonnen, Federal Way soccer — Scored a goal in 2-1 win over Kentridge on Monday.

Joe Nichols, Silas soccer — Scored a goal and had two assists in 3-0 win over rival Stadium on Tuesday.

Jackson Noonan, Stadium baseball — Collected three hits, including a home run, an drove in a run in 7-2 nonleague win over Steilacoom on Thursday. Also pitched three shutout innings and struck out three in 14-1 win over Mount Tahoma on Wednesday.

Keagan Norfleet, Rogers softball — Did not allow an earned run in a seven-inning complete game in a win over Graham-Kapowsin, striking out six. Also hit 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Marcus Olson, Timberline baseball — Pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out nine batters in 6-1 win over Gig Harbor on Friday.

Brayden Platt, Yelm track and field — Won the shot put at the Nike Union Athletic Club’s South Sound Classic with a season-best 61-0 and the javelin with a season-best 189-7. Both are the top-ranked throws statewide this spring. Also placed second in the discus with a personal-best 153-6, which ranks ninth statewide.

Sami Potvin, Olympia softball — Tossed five scoreless innings, striking out 10 in a win over Puyallup. Hit 2-for-3 with a run scored, double and two RBI in a win over Curtis. Hit 2-for-3 with a RBI in a loss to South Kitsap.

Isabel Quintanilla, Emerald Ridge softball — Hit 3-for-5 with three runs scored, three home runs and six RBI in a nine-inning win over South Kitsap.

Nini Sevaaetasi, Decatur softball — Hit 4-for-9 with four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and a stolen base in a loss to Tahoma and win over Federal Way.

Logan Shepherd, Olympia baseball — Collected three hits, including a double, in 7-0 win over Curtis on Friday.

Kyra Smith, Puyallup softball — Hit 2-for-4 with three runs scored, two home runs and three RBI in a win over Bethel.

Trey Smith, Franklin Pierce baseball — Had two hits and drove in three runs in 21-2 win over Clover Park on Tuesday and had two hits and three RBI in 17-0 win over Clover Park on Wednesday.

Madison Walls, Fife softball — Hit 6-for-7 with six runs scored, three doubles, a home run, seven RBI and three stolen bases in wins over Washington and Steilacoom.

Geron White, Kennedy Catholic track and field — Won the high jump at the Pasco Invitational with a personal-best 6-6, which ranks tied for second statewide.

Alanna Wirtala, Emerald Ridge softball — Tossed a nine-inning complete game in a win over South Kitsap, allowing two earned runs while striking out six. Also hit 2-for-4 with a run scored, home run and two RBI.

Raeden Young, Tahoma softball — Tossed a seven-inning complete game in a win over Decatur, allowing three runs and striking out 13. Hit 3-for-3 with three RBI.
