Vote for The Observer, Deer Park high school football offensive player of the week

Here are the nominees for the Charlotte Observer/Deer Park Water high school football offensive player of the week.

Eligible players are at schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union Counties in North Carolina and in York and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina.

The weekly winner will receive a trophy from Deer Park.

This week’s nominees

Gavin Barber, Cox Mill: Two catches on the game-winning drive, plus the game-winning touchdown catch with 20 seconds left, in a 21-20 win over West Cabarrus.

Gabe Bollivar, Pine Lake Prep: In a 62-12 win over Winston-Salem Prep, Bolivar had a school-record 93-yard scoring run. He finished with 19 carries for 295 yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion run.

Tyler Budge, Weddington: Was 20-for-32 passing for 232 yards and a touchdown in a 17-14 win over S.C. 5A reigning state champ Dutch Fork. Budge rushed for 56 yards.

Michael Buck, Lake Norman: In a 24-21 win over AL Brown, Buck had three of four kickoffs go for touchbacks. He was 3-for-3 on exxtra points and made a 50-yard field goal as time expired to win the game.

Marquis Byrd, East Mecklenburg: Ran 14 times for 115 yards in a 40-18 win over Garinger.

Jamir Fox, Ashbrook: In a 33-20 win over Forestview that ended a four-game losing streak this season, Fox ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He also had an 80-yard receiving score.

Channing Goodwin, Providence Day: In a 59-21 win over Christ School, the Michigan commit caught six passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.

Nolan Hauser, Hough: The national career field goal leader made four against Chambers Friday in a 19-13 win. He made one from 53 yards out, which ties for the third-longest in Mecklenburg County history.

Anthony Hawkins, Hickory Grove: In a 42-7 win over Covenant Day, Hawkins ran for 205 yards and four touchdowns.

Finley Polk, Rock Hill Northwestern: In a 56-14 win over Rock Hill, Polk accounted for six total touchdowns. He completed 16-of-24 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He ran 15 times or 87 yards and three touchdowns.

Trenton Sherrill, East Gaston: In a 62-14 win over Cherryville, the senior quarterback completed 15-of-19 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns. He ran six times for 30 yards and a score for East Gaston (5-0).

Caden Smith, West Lincoln: In a 33-19 win over Maiden, Smith ran 25 times for 139 yards and score. On defense, he had 11 tackles and a sack. West Lincoln is 5-0.

Wendell Thompson, Myers Park: Completed 14-of-20 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 45 yards and another touchdown in a win over Palisades.

Jadyn Williams, Butler: In a 49-6 win over Providence, Williams ran 24 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
