WAM Picks: Comicon, recitations and a massive David Bowie tribute show

A bit of Ziggy Stardust, a dash of country music, a geek-friendly convention and an opportunity to go fly a kite: what more do you need? Here are you WAM Picks for Aug. 28-30.

All weekend

Geek Out - St. John's Comicon is at the RE/MAX Centre on Saturday from 9 a.m.to 7.p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m.to 6 p.m. The event will include tabletop gaming, local vendors, artists, authors, educational panels and workshops, and much more! Tickets are $15 a day, $25 for both, $5 for kids 5-12 years old, free under 5.

Friday

Lunchtime Music - Hear/Say at Harbourside Park. Free at 12:30 p.m.

Music at Afterwords – Join Heather Nolan and Jake & Ilia Nicol for an acoustic show at the bookstore on Duckworth starting at 7 p.m.

Kat McLevey CD release concert with AEBridger, Carole Bestvater & Friends at the Hall at 8 p.m.

Pub Milestone - 25th Anniversary party for the iconic Duke of Duckworth. All day (and late into the evening).

Recitations and Stories – From Stage to Stage: Newfoundland and Labrador recitations from Dave Penney, Harry Ingram, Hubert Furey and Dave Paddon at Newman Wine Vaults. Tickets are $20, show starts at 8 p.m.

The Garrick in Bonavista – An evening of gospel music with Wendy Woodland and Darrin Martin, backed by Brian Way, Sandy Morris, Scott Mansfield, and Heather Kao. Admission $25, $10 or Students starts at 8 p.m.

Saturday night live music

- The Black Sheep – Starting at 3 p.m., a country music jamboree featuring Sherry Ryan, Phil Goodland, Wade Dawe, Darren Browne, Elliot Dicks and bad Power with a 'sneaky BBQ' in the alley at 4 p.m. in the evening, you can catch a show by the Panting Brothers.

Young Scientists - Berries – An activity for kids ages 3 and up at the Manuels River, Hibernia Interpretation Centre starting at 1 p.m.

Ramen and Art – Drop by Chinched Bistro for an art show and ramen soup starting at 5 p.m.

Comedy in the Round - John Sheehan at Perchance Theatre in Cupids. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
