Water-skiers thrill crowds at championship event in Saskatoon

The Western Canadian Water-ski Championships kicked off at the Saskatoon Water-ski Club Friday.

Athletes of all ages — from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba — will be competing at the weekend long event.

Jeff Edwards, president of the Saskatoon Water Ski Club, is anticipating great weather and exciting performances in a variety of styles, from jumping to slalom.

"Good weather and some great skiing," Edwards said Friday. "We're doing jump right now, which is my favourite. It's a little more exciting to watch and — depending if everyone lands or crashes — it kind of gives the crowd a thrill."

The club is also playing host to some of Canada's best water-skiers, who will help the Saskatchewan athletes prepare for their events.

The special guests include Pan Am Medalist and former World Champion Jaret Llewellyn.
