Wawa formally submits plans for Centre County location. Here are the latest details

New details emerged this week about Centre County’s first Wawa.

Plans were formally submitted late last month for the gas station/convenience store to be located at the corner of Benner Pike and Eagle Point in Benner Township, subdivision and land development planner Chris Schnure told Centre County commissioners.

The 6,606-square-foot facility across from Sheetz will have 16 fueling stations.

Motorists will be able to access Wawa from Eagle Point, where an intersection will be created and can exit onto Eagle Point or make a right turn onto Benner Pike. There will also be access to the adjacent Dunkin’, which also directs traffic to turn right on Benner Pike

Developers plan to subdivide the property, which surrounds Graystone Court. The remainder of the property will be used for stormwater management and overflow parking for the nearby Stuckey dealership.

Schnure said in an email that the plans are being reviewed by several agencies including PennDOT, Benner Township, Centre County Conservation District, Centre County Planning and Community Development Office.

Commissioners Chairman Mark Higgins noted during Tuesday’s meeting that with Sheetz, Giant, Rutter’s and now Wawa, there will be four gas stations in the same area.

“In just a couple of years, we’ve gone from one gas station on the Benner Pike to four.

“Quite a lot of, well, progress might not be the right term for it, but quite a lot of motion, shall we say, in greater Bellefonte at this point,” Higgins said. “A lot more businesses, a lot more activity.”

Commissioners added a memorandum of understanding for the Wawa project to next week’s consent agenda; it’s an agreement between the developer, township and the county that states the developer will reimburse Benner Township for the costs associated with the township engineer’s work on the plan.
