Fallen Fredericton officers remembered at regimental funeral and parade

In the week following the Aug. 10 slayings of two Fredericton, N.B. police officers and two civilians, the city has come together to mourn their dead and honour their memories.

On Aug. 17, days of acts of solidarity, memorials and vigils culminated in a regimental parade and funeral for officers Robb Costello, 45, and Sara Burns, 43.

Thousands of first responders came from across the country to march in a parade that wound its way through Fredericton and ended at the University of New Brunswick’s Aitken University Centre arena where the funeral was held.

Costello and Burns died while responding to a shooting at an apartment complex in the city’s north side on the morning of Aug. 10. They were the first on the scene and were gunned down as they approached the bodies of civilians Donnie Robichaud, 42, and his girlfriend, Bobbie Lee Wright, 32.

Here are images from the regimental funeral and parade honouring constables Burns and Constello, and from the week of mourning that led up to it.
