Whatcom Roundup: New bar coming to Bellingham; bikini barista opens; beer fest on tap

Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

New bar planned for Bellingham

Starla’s Tavern, a “natural wine bar with rotating beer taps and hearty snacks,” is planned to open at 1149 N State St. in Bellingham, according to a city permit filed April 1.

The tavern will be in the previous location of The Fat Beet, a vegan restaurant that closed Nov. 2023.

No opening date has been announced.

Bikini barista stand opens in Bellingham

Iconic Coffee, a “model barista coffee service” stand, has opened in Bellingham. The coffee stand is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday at 4209 Meridian St.

Fjallraven opens Bellingham store

Swedish outdoor apparel and equipment company Fjallraven has opened its downtown Bellingham shop. The busi officially opened on March 21, according to Claire Sisun, Fjallraven’s communications manager.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at 128 W Holly St.

Bellingham Beer Week this month

Bellingham Beer Week, an 11-day-long beer festival and celebration is back this year year from April 18-28. The festival is put on by 15 participating breweries and nine taprooms, that will host block parties, release new beers, have live music, brewery tours and other events. The Herald published an event preview March 11.
