What's On: Community theatre, theatre for young people and more
There are many stage productions taking place in venues across the city -- from community theatre in the church to a play about cyber-bullying at Young People's Theatre. Here are the details:
The Vicar of Dibley
Apr 23 to Apr 25, Jubilee United Church
Theatre Columbus has a mandate to "create, through a collaborative process, new and original Canadian plays that combine a physical theatre tradition with social and personal issues relevant to our time and place." The company has collaborated with local church ministers in the city for a special fundraising show to benefit its Play Development Program. The show is adapted from the hit BBC show about the kerfuffle caused by a new female vicar in a small British town.

Manaveli Arangdal: Festival of Theatre
Apr 26, Flato Markham Theatre
Like many immigrant communities, theatre provides the Sri Lankan Tamil community in the city a platform to raise cultural awareness and engage in social debate. This year's festival looks at issues of gender and violences, and the expectations around the role of women in society.

Apr 21 to May 8, Young People's Theatre
The plot of the play reads as if it's taken right from the headlines. A photo of a young woman passed out at a party with the word 'slut' written on her face goes viral, and a bunch of young people are questioned about their role in the situation. Playwright Dave Deveau says he wanted to look at the psychologically of kids who have grown up with the internet and their online interactions.
