Here is where things stand on a potential Chiefs trade involving L’Jarius Sneed

Social media was abuzz over the weekend about two subjects: Kate Middleton and L’Jarius Sneed.

The well being of Princess Kate may have been put to rest Monday, but where Sneed, the Chiefs cornerback, will play next season remains in question.

Two Colts reporters on Saturday offered divergent opinions on X about whether the Chiefs soon would swing a trade that would send Sneed to Indianapolis. One said a deal was imminent, another said nothing was close to being done.

No trade has taken place, as of Tuesday morning, so you can decide which reporter had the correct information.

Earlier this month, the Chiefs placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed, which allowed him to seek a trade. Two teams have been mentioned most as a potential landing spot for Sneed: the Colts and Titans.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini shared insights Monday morning about Sneed’s talks with other teams on “The Athletic Football Show.”

It sounds like the Titans’ four-year, $92 million deal with wide receiver Calvin Ridley may have changed their plans for pursuing Sneed.

“Well, I had my tweet up, ready to go, because I really thought it was gonna get done last week,” Russini said of Sneed. “The Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts were really close on getting deals done. This was before the Calvin Ridley move was made by Tennessee. I don’t think all trade talks are dead involving Sneed now, with Kansas City.

“Do I believe that it’s gonna be Tennessee? I think chances are obviously smaller now. Being able to pay Sneed on a new contract, because he does want a new deal, obviously, and that appears to be the hold-up of trying to iron that out. So, the conversations are going to continue and I do think if there’s gonna be more movement, we’re gonna see it a little bit closer to the draft.”

Russini said the Patriots and Vikings were involved at one point but are out of the running now. She sees the Colts as the front-runner for acquiring Sneed.

The NFL Draft starts April 25.

More on Sneed, Colts

On Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter joined “The Pat McAfee Show” and was asked about the dueling Sneed messages on X from Colts reporters.

Schefter said his bosses at ESPN had seen those posts and wanted to know if a trade was imminent.

“The two sides, quote-unquote, ‘Haven’t had any conversations.’ Colts and Chiefs,” Schefter said he told ESPN. “A hundred percent, not happening. Now, could that change? Could that change? Sure. But, no, that’s not happening, Pat.”

Schefter added the Chiefs have no problem having Sneed play the 2024 season on the franchise tag.

“He wants a long-term deal, so it’s up to him and his agent to see if they can help broker a deal and structure something to get him the long-term security that he wants, but no, nothing, right now, has gotten done,” Schefter said. “The Colts are not expected to be in on him. The Colts and Chiefs have not discussed a deal for L’Jarius Sneed, at least to date.

“Could that change, you never know, you never know, but nothing, no conversation between those two teams, and that’s where we’re at right now.”

Things can change on a dime in the NFL, but for now, Sneed remains with the Chiefs and interest from the Colts and Titans apparently has diminished.
