Where to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs in Brant

Brant is buzzing with excitement as local hockey heroes Adam Henrique and Brandon Montour battle it out on the ice for the Stanley Cup this month.

Combined, they have multiple local hockey connections — Henrique’s minor hockey career began in Burford, and now he’s a centre for the Edmonton Oilers. Florida Panthers defenceman Montour was born in nearby Ohsweken, and got his start playing minor hockey in Cambridge. Both also played in Brantford.

Although the two are currently rivals on the ice, they join forces each July for the Annual Henrique Montour Golf Classic in support of children in Brant and Six Nations of the Grand River.

Whether you’re Team Henrique, Team Montour or cheering on both, here are the local spots to catch the playoff games:

Team Henrique: Burford Community Centre

The Burford and District Optimist Club, along with the County of Brant, invite residents to cheer on Henrique from the big screen upstairs at the Burford Community Centre for all remaining playoff games.

Attendees are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to the free event.

Doors open at 7:45 p.m., all ages welcome.

Team Montour: Six Nations of the Grand River, various locations

Six Nations has announced they’ll be hosting a family event to cheer on Brandon Montour on June 15 at J.C. Hill Elementary School. Games 5, 6 and 7 will have viewing parties at the Six Nations Community Hall.

It will be an alcohol-and-cannabis-free event, Coun. Greg Frazer said on the Six Nations Chief and Council #SNGRRadioShow.

Both teams: Brantford and District Civic Centre, Riverside Lounge

The City of Brantford and Brantford Bulldogs are co-hosting a Game 4 viewing party on June 15 at the Brantford and District Civic Centre.

The event will include live trivia at intermission and a draw for a Bulldogs Jersey.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the game starting at 8 p.m. The city recommends reserving a table in advance, as space is limited.
