Why Selena Gomez Skipped the 2023 Grammys
Those hoping Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift might have an in-person reunion tonight at the 2023 Grammys will have to wait another year. Gomez opted to not attend the show tonight for fair reason: She has no direct nominations, although she is credited in Coldplay's Music of Spheres album nomination for Album of the Year, as she collaborated with the band on “Let Somebody Go.”
Gomez has been in New York City, where she's currently filming Only Murders in the Building's third season with co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, in addition to this season's stars Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep.
Gomez shared a photo of the group together on her Instagram. “Very, very grateful lady! @onlymurdershulu @hulu @johnnyhoffman5 thank you for making this wanna be an unbelievably, absurdly happy human 💤🌥️” she wrote on January 17.
Gomez was last photographed in New York City on February 3, on the opposite side of the country as tonight's Los Angeles ceremony.
Gomez could be at the Grammys next year as she has teased she has new music coming out this year. She told ELLE in its September 2021 issue that “I don’t think I’ll ever quit making music.” She added that she still feels like she's trying to prove herself. “I’m not saying I want a Grammy. I just feel like I’m doing the best I can, and it’s all about me. Sometimes, that can really get to me.” Music is so personal, she continued: “You’re pouring yourself out.”
