Wingham BIA Bucks program changing

WINGHAM – The Wingham BIA Bucks program is undergoing a procedural change, according to a press release from BIA Treasurer Doug Kuyvenhoven.

The program will still be in effect; however, “the Libro Credit Union is no longer permitted to withdraw funds from the BIA Bucks account on behalf of the BIA. The Wingham BIA is now required to reimburse BIA members for BIA Bucks which they received from customers.”

Kuyvenhoven said that if you have BIA Bucks to be reimbursed, the receptionist at Libro will take them and issue a receipt with your business name, the date, and the dollar value to be refunded.

“The receptionist will then email the BIA treasurer who will either e-transfer the dollar amount to your business, or print and deliver/mail the cheque to your business,” said Kuyvenhoven.

The BIA Bucks program is a great incentive program for local businesses because it can only be spent in Wingham with BIA member businesses. In 2023, over $14,000 BIA Bucks were purchased.

“Any member of the public can purchase booklets of BIA Bucks. Each booklet contains $200 of BIA Bucks in a mix of $20s and $10s. BIA Bucks are great for gift certificates as they aren’t limited to any particular store/business,” Kuyvenhoven said.

“The BIA is working out details on how BIA Bucks can be purchased since the sale of BIA Bucks will also need to be handled by the BIA,” added Kuyvenhoven. “We hope to set up a method in the next few weeks for purchasing BIA Bucks online.”
