Winnipeg police seek person of interest in downtown mail thefts

Winnipeg police are looking for a person of interest after mail was stolen from at least 11 apartment buildings in the city's downtown and West End areas during the month of August.

In each case, a male gained access to a building's vestibule, where he pried open residents' mailboxes and took their mail.

Locations where the break-ins occurred include:

- 400 block of Maryland Street.

- First 100 block of Cornish Avenue.

- 100 block of Young Street.

- 100 block of Balmoral Street.

- 300 block of Kennedy Street.

- 400 block of Kennedy Street.

- 1st 100 block of Carlton Street.

- 100 block of Donald Street.

- 100 block of Smith Street.

- 200 block of Portage Avenue.

- 300 block of Broadway.

Total damage is estimated to be at least $11,000.

Police released photos of a "person of interest" in connection with the mail thefts on Thursday.
