Ottawa police say a 20-year-old woman was shot, brought to hospital by a driver who left the scene, and then died on Monday evening.

Ottawa police said they were called to the General campus of The Ottawa Hospital around 6:15 p.m. Monday for a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The woman, Sahur Yare of Ottawa, was pronounced dead around 90 minutes later, police said.

Sources say Yare and her boyfriend were riding in a car operated by a driving service on Monday evening when police believe that vehicle was shot at.

The bullets entered the vehicle on the passenger side of the car, according to sources, while it was travelling in the area of Johnston Road and Pennard Way in the city's Greenboro neighbourhood.

The driver of the car dropped off both the injured Yare and her boyfriend at the General campus and then left the scene, according to sources, and police later found the driver on Othello Drive near the Elmvale Acres mall.

Police continue to investigate.
