Woman, 59, Dies After Falling 40ft From Go Ape Zip Wire

A woman has died after plunging from a zip wire at a US adventure park.

The 59-year-old fell around 40ft at the Go Ape Zip Line & Treetop Adventure at Lums Pond State Park, Bear, Delaware.

The accident happened at about 1.40pm yesterday (Wednesday).

After receiving treatment at the scene, the unnamed woman was taken to the nearby Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Next of kin have been informed and a police investigation is underway.

Chris Swallow, Director of Go Ape, said in a statement: “The Go Ape team is deeply saddened by this tragic occurrence.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends and in particular to those who were on the course with her at the time.

"We will of course be cooperating with the authorities with regard to this incident.

"It would be inappropriate to comment or speculate on the circumstances of this incident until all of the investigations are completed.”

Go Ape began in the UK in 2002 and has since launched at 15 sites in the US.

The Lums Pond course is advertised as a 2-3 hour adventure, including five sections, 37 unique crossings and four zip lines.
