Woman, dog stranded overnight after husband dies when canoe flips, Colorado rescuers say

A woman and her dog spent the night stranded below cliffs on the shore of Sweetwater Lake after a canoeing accident killed her husband, Colorado rescuers reported.

Garfield County sheriff’s deputies found the woman and dog the next morning Wednesday, June 22, the agency said in a news release issued Friday, June 24.

The couple had been canoeing the night before with their dog when the canoe overturned, the release said. The woman and dog swam to shore, but the man did not make it.

Anglers and paddle boarders on the lake later discovered the man’s body, deputies reported.

Sweetwater Lake is north of Dotsero, Colorado, which is west of Denver.
