Woman found dead in Dover following gunshot reports

Calgary police are scouring the back alley behind a home on Dover Meadows Close S.E.

Residents living in a southeast Calgary neighbourhood say they heard gunshots and screaming early Friday morning just before a woman’s body was found by police.

Police and EMS responded to the scene on Dover Meadows Close after receiving several calls reporting gunshots at 6:30 a.m. MT today.

Don Turner, who lives nearby, said he was startled early Friday by the sound of at least two or three gunshots.

“Just a few seconds later, a man come running out into the alley, came out of the garage, I think, and screaming about she's dead, he killed her, I need help,” Turner said.

Calgary police have yet to comment on how the woman in her 20s died, but say the homicide unit is investigating.

Police did say the home where she was found is known for "activity related to organized crime."

Neighbours say they are not surprised about the home, adding they've been calling police for quite some time about the number of people going in and out of the house at all hours.

“There's so much going on around that particular place, I think everyone kind of figured something was going to happen sooner or later,” Turner said.

Officers with dog teams searched the area Friday and canvassed nearby homes, going door-to-door to talk to neighbours.

“Anytime you have gunfire erupting in a residential neighbourhood, it's absolutely concerning,” said police spokesman Kevin Brookwell. “You have bullets flying, and again, that's what our crime scene folks do is determine how many rounds and where all those rounds ended up.”

The woman’s identity has not been released. No arrests have been made.
