World Cup closing taps Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santana

Colombian pop star Shakira will perform at her third consecutive World Cup closing ceremony, organizers have announced.

The 37-year-old singer and former judge on TV singing competition The Voice will take the stage with Brazil's Carlinhos Brown ahead of the July 13 finale.

They will perform the song La La La (Brazil 2014) — one of the tracks on the official FIFA 2014 World Cup album.

"I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included," she said in a statement.

"The fans have shown the most incredible support for this song and I can't wait to perform it for them."

Shakira previously performed at the closing ceremonies in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010.

Her tune Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) was the official song of the 2010 World Cup and is considered among the most popular tunes associated with the international competition.

The longtime soccer fan and her partner, Spanish defender Gerard Piqué, welcomed a son in 2013.

The closing ceremonies, set for Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium, will also feature performances by rock veteran Carlos Santana, hip hop star Wyclef Jean and Brazilian singers Alexandre Pires and Ivete Sangalo.
