World leaders congratulate ‘friend’ Starmer on election victory

World leaders have flocked to congratulate Keir Starmer, just hours after Labour won the General Election.

Tweeting messages of support included the likes of France's Macron, who wrote that he was "pleased" with his first discussion with Starmer.

Canada's Justin Trudeau praised a "progressive, fair future", while Australia's Anthony Albanese said he "looks forward to working constructively" with the UK.

The new Labour government marks the first Conservative defeat in 14 years, with the Tories losing over 240 seats across the UK.
