Young man and woman charged after 2 men shot in downtown Ottawa

A young man and a young woman are facing a slew of charges after two men were shot in front of a downtown Ottawa office building early Victoria Day morning.

Police were called to a shooting at the corner of Slater and O'Connor streets around 3:05 a.m. Monday.

Officers found four shell casings at the scene, police said, and then visited the Montfort and General hospitals to check on two men in their 20s who had suffered non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

Both men have since been released.

On Tuesday, police announced that they arrested and charged two people in connection to the shooting.

A 26-year-old man is charged with:

- Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

- Possession of a weapon.

- Carrying a concealed weapon.

- Possession of a firearm without a license.

- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

- Failing to comply with a recognizance or undertaking.

- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

- Common nuisance.

- Discharging a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner.

A 22-year-old woman is charged with:

- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.

- Possession of a weapon.

- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

- Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with.

- Possession of a schedule two substance.

A trail of blood could still be seen early Monday afternoon leading from the front of an office building at the southeast corner of the intersection past Laurier Computers to the curb.

Early Monday afternoon police also towed a blood-spattered Jeep from the side of the road.

It was the city's 26th shooting of the year.
