Young Sheldon Boss Confirms George’s Death in Final Season: ‘I Don’t Want to Say What You Will or Won’t See’
Young Sheldon‘s final season will feature at least one wedding — and, in all likelihood, a funeral.
Speaking to TVLine in anticipation of the Big Bang Theory spinoff’s Season 7 opener (airing Thursday, Feb. 15 at 8/7c on CBS), executive producer Steve Holland confirms that George Sr.’s death is definitely on the horizon.

“I don’t want to say what you will or won’t see, but things will get addressed,” Holland says when asked about Dad’s looming death date. “We are not beholden to every joke that was ever made on The Big Bang Theory, but we do feel beholden to the larger canon and the larger events that shape Sheldon’s life. We want to honor those.”
Though some Young Sheldon fans insist that the prequel series shouldn’t have to abide by Big Bang canon, Holland maintains that he and series co-creators Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro are not willing to sidestep the tragedy altogether.
“Absolutely not,” he affirms. “That is a thing that happens in Sheldon’s life. This is the same character [from Big Bang]. We are living in the same universe as Big Bang and that sort of world building is important. Big things that [Adult Sheldon said] happened in his life without a doubt happened.”
Adding fuel to the speculative fire is George’s portrayer, Lance Barber, who recently shared a pair of potentially ominous posts to his infrequently updated Instagram account — one captioned “gonna miss my Cooper kids” that featured a new, behind-the-scenes photo with Iain Armitage, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan, and another captioned “seems like yesterday,” with a picture of Armitage and Revord circa Season 3. That same week, Revord posted a TikTok with the caption, “Emotional support dog for an emotional scene.”
Given all of the above, we had to ask: Will George’s death come sooner than later in Season 7?
“You can’t see this, but Chuck Lorre is right here with a gun,” Holland answers with a laugh. “I would love to [tell you], but he’s just off camera.”
