Zayn Malik talks life on his farm and how his 3-year-old helps with the animals

Zayn Malik is a man of mystery to most people. But he’s best known as a singer, a former member of the boy band One Direction, and dad to Khai.

And while Zayn and supermodel Gigi Hadid have kept their 3-year-old daughter out of the public eye, Zayn recently opened up about life with his daughter on his Philadelphia farm.

During an interview with Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, Zayn reveals he’s been living on his farm for about “five or six years now.”

“I’ve got chickens, got a couple of turtles, got dogs, cats. Eventually going to branch out to making it a bit more of a proper farm when I have the time, but it’s a lot of work looking after loads of animals. I want horses eventually, I would like to get some horses, too.”

And when asked if he takes part in naming all of his animals, Zayn admitted he does and his daughter likes to help.

“I do yeah, I think that shows a good owner,” the singer said before adding, “You have to be somewhat connected to your animals, and I like to name, my daughter helps me with naming them now too so it’s fun.”

Zayn and Khai seem to share a rather close bond. The proud father admitted there is a chance she follows in his footsteps.

While talking with L’Officiel, he said Khai knows her dad is a singer and often listens for him on the radio. But the 3-year-old also “has a lot of natural ability herself already,” Zayn said.

“I know, it sounds ridiculous because she’s three, but her retention for language, especially when it’s formatted in a musical sense to her, has been amazing. She’ll remember every lyric of every song that she likes.”

He continued, “She remembers chord progressions and notes. She can do runs that have, like, three, four notes already. I look forward to seeing what she’s going to be capable of doing as she gets older.”

In the end, however, Zayn’s main goal as a father is to keep Khai “grounded and enjoying the Earth, rather than all the noise that comes with it.”

And it seems like he and Gigi are on the same page. In a recent interview with Instyle, Gigi admitted her favorite summer getaway is one on the East Coast with her baby girl.

“My ideal summer ‘escape’ is escaping the East Coast heat by spending the afternoon with my daughter in the pool,” Gigi said. And of course “having friends over, running in the sprinklers, crafting, and going to our local spot for hot dogs and milkshakes.”
