2 Vancouver stabbing spree victims expected to survive

Six people were taken to hospital following a stabbing at an apartment in Vancouver last week.

Vancouver police say they expect both women who are still in hospital after a random stabbing attack last week will survive.

A total of eight people, including one police officer, were injured in the attacks at an apartment building in Vancouver’s West End on Jan. 31. Six were taken to hospital.

At a news conference Wednesday morning, police said a 24-year-old woman is in serious condition and a 28-year-old woman is in stable condition. The other victims have all been released.

Jerome Bonneric, 33, has been charged with 12 counts of assault. He was arrested inside the building a short time after the stabbings. It is believed he was visiting his girlfriend at the time. He wasn't previously known to police.

Bonneric remains in custody pending his next court appearance, scheduled for Thursday.

Outside a brief hearing Monday morning, Bonneric’s lawyer told reporters his client has mental health issues and would likely be remanded for 30 days for a psychiatric assessment.
